EA Sports College Football 25 is one of the most anticipated video game releases of the 21st Century, and the game’s attention to detail has fans buzzing.
The creators spent plenty of time working on the small idiosyncrasies that make each team unique. With the creators paying attention to detail with things like stadium entrances, will Virginia Tech’s “Enter Sandman” tradition be in the game?
Will EA Sports College Football 25 Feature Virginia Tech’s ‘Enter Sandman’ Tradition?
Shockingly, it doesn’t look like EA Sports College Football 25 will be able to feature Virginia Tech’s “Enter Sandman” in the game — at least not with the same attention to detail that it will use for other features. Early returns say that instead of hearing “Enter Sandman” when playing at Lane Stadium, gamers will be greeted with “generic rock music.”
There seems to be a bit of a snag with licensing and rights, which shouldn’t be overly surprising given Metallica’s history.
The wildly popular rock band was the plaintiff in a groundbreaking lawsuit in 2000 against the peer-to-peer file-sharing site Napster. Metallica was the first artist to file suit for unlawful use of digital audio and copyright infringement.
EA Sports has done its due diligence in creating the game. The company has paid for the rights to other things in the game, like the use of authentic uniforms and — of course — athletes’ names, images, and likenesses. However, according to early reports, there is no agreement with Metallica over the right to use “Enter Sandman” in Virginia Tech’s legendary entrance.
Could We Hear ‘Enter Sandman’ in Future Updates of EA Sports College Football 25?
It’s certainly possible that we could hear “Enter Sandman” in future versions or updates of EA Sports College Football 25.
For one, the game has announced tracks like Darude’s “Sandstorm” and Sheck Wes’ “Mo Bamba” will be featured in the game, implying that EA Sports has reached licensing agreements with those artists. This implies some sort of holdup in the licensing agreement with Metallica.
That being said, the heavy metal band has had a generally favorable relationship with Virginia Tech in the past, and it’s clear that the Hokies and EA Sports want “Enter Sandman” in the game.
Given all of the above, there seems to be a cautious optimism that gamers will get to see a full “Enter Sandman” entrance at Lane Stadium at some point in the game, even if it is not available in the initial release.
