Butch Jones’ Salary, Contract, Net Worth and More

Butch Jones is searching for his first winning season in 2024, but what salary does the Arkansas State head coach earn under his contract?

Butch Jones is entering his fourth season as Arkansas State head coach in 2024 and is still searching for his first winning season.

The Red Wolves head coach is an established figure in college football with previous jobs at Tennessee and Cincinnati, but he is paid significantly less in Jonesboro.

What is Jones’ salary and contract for the upcoming season?

Butch Jones’ Salary and Contract in 2024

Jones signed a five-year contract in 2020, paying him an annual salary of $825,00 at Arkansas State.

However, Jones’ contract was extended at the end of the 2021 season, basically adding an extra year to his contract with no salary increase.

The extension came despite Arkansas State having a 2-10 record in 2021. Still, Red Wolves System President, Dr. Chuck Welch, claimed, “Coach Jones is completely changing the culture, discipline and overall organization of our football program, and we’re excited about the future under his guidance as head coach.”

Since then, Arkansas State has had two more losing seasons, having a 3-9 record in 2022, and a 6-7 record in 2023 in the Sun Belt Conference.

USA Today reports that Jones’ salary with the Red Wolves is significantly less than he earned in previous head coaching roles.

As head coach with the Cincinnati Bearcats between 2010 and 2012, Jones earned an annual salary of $1.1 million and $1.3 million before leaving to take up the role as Tennessee head coach.

On Rocky Top, Jones’ salary increased exponentially, earning $4.86 million in 2013, $2.96 million in 2014, $3.63 million in 2015, and $4.1 million in 2016 and 2017.

After being fired, Jones became an offensive assistant with Alabama before taking the Arkansas State job in December 2020.

    Jones’ Net Worth

As a result of an established coaching career dating back to 1987, Jones has earned millions in various coaching roles. Celebrity Net Worth reports Jones has a net worth of $15 million.

Using data from USA Today and taking everything into account, since 2010 Jones has earned an estimated 24.7 million in salary.

This number doesn’t include Jones’ huge $8.26 million buyout paid in monthly installments after he was fired as the Volunteers head coach. That number would become prorated if Jones was given a new position.

He had taken up a role as an offensive assistant with Alabama between 2018 and 2019. However, Knox News states that Jones’ salary at Alabama was only $35,000 and, therefore, did not significantly impact his buyout clause from Tennessee.
