Therefore, it is no surprise that Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy leads the way in the 2024 College Football National Championship MVP odds, with the Wolverines favorites to be crowned national champions on Monday night.

McCarthy has had his fair share of highs and lows in the 2023 college football season, notably throwing three interceptions against Bowling Green early in the season while also not scoring a touchdown on four separate occasions during the Wolverines’ run to the 2024 College Football National Championship Game.
However, the man regarded as the greatest quarterback Michigan has ever had by head coach Jim Harbaugh is coming off a Rose Bowl performance where he threw for three touchdowns. If he comes up big again in Houston on Monday night, he’ll likely live up to his status as the National Championship MVP odds favorite.

Trailing just behind in the latest National Championship odds, is the passer who is used to coming up just short of major national recognition, Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. The former Indiana standout finished as the runner-up to LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels for the Heisman Trophy, sparking furious debate as to when that award should be voted on.
Few people can argue that Penix is the ultimate game-changer for the Huskies, boasting a ludicrous arm that has eviscerated defenses across college football consistently this campaign. As their QB has been for most of his career, the Huskies are an underdog in this game — but don’t bet against Penix making it Purple Rain in NRG Stadium with an MVP-caliber performance.
Blake Corum, Michigan +400
A running back hasn’t been named the offensive MVP of the title game since Ezekiel Elliott guided the Ohio State Buckeyes to the first-ever championship of the College Football Playoff era. However, that doesn’t mean you should ignore the National Championship odds for a man who has ultimately been the most valuable Michigan player for the past two campaigns.
Corum accounted for over half of Michigan’s points in the Rose Bowl win over Alabama, including the go-ahead touchdown in overtime that took the Wolverines to the title game. He’s the only player to have scored a touchdown in every game this season and faces a Washington team with a porous run defense. The scene is set to end his Michigan career menacingly.
Roman Wilson, Michigan +1500
Washington has a much-lauded trio of wide receivers, so it’s something of a surprise to see Roman Wilson currently receiving shorter National Championship odds than any of them ahead of the title game. However, that’s perhaps a reflection of his reliability as a touchdown scorer for the Wolverines, accounting for more than half of QB McCarthy’s passing touchdowns this fall.

Wilson is also coming off a performance against Alabama that saw him average 18.3 yards per reception and make one of the most ludicrous catches of the year. However, it would take something far more sensational than 73 yards and a score to follow in the footsteps of Alabama WR DeVonta Smith who is the only wide receiver to be Offensive MVP in the playoff era.
Rome Odunze, Washington +1700
If you’re looking for a wide receiver winner of the offensive MVP, then Washington’s Rome Odunze feels like a far better bet. The future NFL Draft first-rounder has tallied 100+ receiving yard games in 10 of his 14 games during this magical 2023 college football campaign for the Huskies. Furthermore, he’s not registered less than 100 yards in his last five outings of the year.
Odunze’s game-changing performances have seen him snag multiple touchdowns in five of his 14 games this season, resulting in his leading the talented Washington wide receiver room with 1,553 receiving yards and 14 total touchdowns. That said, he’s never registered a 200+ receiving-yard game, which is likely the standard required to receive Offensive MVP honors.
