Boise State is entering a new era of Broncos football with Spencer Danielson officially at the head coaching helm. Quarterback Taylen Green, however, may not be his signal-caller moving forward.
Green took to social media to announce his desire to enter the transfer portal. Does this mean he’s officially out of the blue turf? Here’s a look at five portal destinations for Green.
Transfer Portal Landing Spots for Taylen Green
Green was considered a significant find in the 2021 class for Bryan Harsin before he left for Auburn. Green remained on the blue turf and ended up leading BSU back to the top of the Mountain West Conference.
Green, though, faced his share of up-and-down moments in Boise, including briefly losing action to Maddux Madsen. He also witnessed the coaching change involving Andy Avalos getting fired midseason. Still, Green earned Most Valuable Player honors in the MWC title game Saturday against UNLV, going 12 of 15 for 226 yards and two touchdown passes and adding 90 yards rushing with two more scores.
Here are five potential landing spots for the towering and athletic 6’6″ dual-threat.
Boise State Broncos
Yes, there’s still a chance the Broncos can keep him from drifting off. Along with announcing his intention to enter the portal, he shared he’s open for a return to the blue turf.
Green ended up combining for 20 touchdowns (11 passing) while fighting for playing time with Madsen. He also took over when Madsen went down with a season-ending injury against New Mexico. Here’s another part that could sway the Broncos into keeping Green: making him available for the Dec. 16 LA Bowl by persuading him to leave the portal. Boise State is currently down to true freshman C.J. Tiller and walk-on Colt Fulton as the only available QB options vs. UCLA.
San Diego State Aztecs
The Aztecs were one of the schools that offered Green out of Lewisville, Texas. Now, Sean Lewis is at the helm.
For Lewis to make his fast-paced RPO offense click, he needs a dual-threat like what he had yearly at Kent State and during the brief period he was Shedeur Sanders’ offensive coordinator at Colorado. Green’s game is tailored made for what Lewis aims to install in the 619.
Texas State Bobcats
If Green is aiming for a return to the Lone Star State, The Bobcats come off as a perfect destination to make great use of his skills.

Here’s why: TSU head coach G.J Klinne and offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich run a high-powered RPO attack made for dual-threats like Green. T.J. Finley is already one towering QB who thrived in the Sun Belt’s best offense as he combined for 29 touchdowns (24 passing). The knock for Green here is the 6’7″ Finley was a redshirt sophomore this past season, meaning he may have to sit behind Finley. But special packages involving him and Finley have got to be enticing for an offensive whiz like Klinne.
Washington State Cougars
Say Green doesn’t want to drift far. Pullman, Washington, sounds perfect for a short-distance move. The reason? Cam Ward is in the portal and will likely not be returning.
The Cougars can continue the theme of rolling with a running and throwing threat by adding Green. And, with Wazzu lined up to face MWC opponents as part of a pact made by them and the conference, the Cougars can turn to a QB who is already familiar with the defenses the MWC presents. It could also help that new WSU offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle comes from the same state as Green, as he’s a Wichita Falls native.
California Golden Bears
Berkeley could offer the best chance for Green to take the Power Five leap, with Cal soon off to the Atlantic Coast Conference.
While the Golden Bears were saved by Fernando Mendoza and became a bowl team, Cal’s offense under Jake Spavital still was being tailored toward having a running/throwing option behind center. That got eliminated when TCU transfer Sam Jackson V went down during the season.
But now, Cal can use some additional depth at QB behind Mendoza. Here’s the other part that gives the Bears leverage: There’s plenty of past Boise State representation here, including head coach Justin Wilcox. And promoted OC Mike Bloesch is a Texas guy who’s worked with QBs before while at North Texas.
