The UL-Monroe Warhawks have made a change at head coach, firing Terry Bowden after three seasons at the helm. Bowden finishes with a 10-26 record in charge of the Warhawks, failing to ride any sort of momentum forward into sustained success.
UL-Monroe Fires Terry Bowden
A legendary coach in his own right, Bowden could just never get the ball moving in the right direction while in charge of the Warhawks.
The 67-year-old son of the late Bobby Bowden has had multiple stints as a head coach and found success at just about every venture. His current head coaching record now stands at 185-140-2 from a career that dates back to 1983 when he took his first head coaching gig.
Bowden took over for ULM in 2021 and fielded back-to-back 4-8 records in his first two seasons. He was more competitive in his second season in the Sun Belt, showcasing potential growth as a program.
However, after a 2-10 record in 2023 and a winless Sun Belt record, the momentum crashed quicker than it even started. Bowden’s record of 10-26 with the program now stands as his least efficient coaching record.
Over the course of his career, Bowden rebuilt multiple programs, including Akron in the mid-2010s. He finished with multiple winning records at Akron and even a MAC division title as well as three straight NCAA Division II playoff appearances at the helm of North Alabama.
A member of the legendary Bowden coaching tree, Bowden is perhaps most famous from his time with the Auburn Tigers in the mid-to-late 1990s. There, he led Auburn to a 47-17-1 record including multiple SEC West titles.
His brother, Jeff and Tommy, each found success at different ventures in the coaching realm as well, but neither sustained the longevity Terry did during his time on the sidelines.
