Before North Carolina Tar Heels coach Bill Belichick even went to the sidelines of a college football game, he had attracted negative headlines, especially after the controversial CBS interview with his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson. While the interview was allegedly supposed to be around his book “The Art of Winning,” when the interviewer started asking personal questions, especially about when he met his much younger girlfriend, Hudson interrupted and asked CBS to move on.
ACC Media Days (July 22-24) aren’t far away, and this will be another occasion when Belichick will face the media. However, unlike last time, there won’t be any cushy or controlled press appearances, according to USA Today’s Matt Hayes.
Hayes warns UNC’s high-profile new coach will face an “unfiltered press exposure” at ACC Media Day.
“We’re about two weeks from ACC Media Days, and there’s nothing North Carolina coach Bill Belichick or his muse – if Belichick calls his 24-year-old girlfriend his muse, so should we – can do about it,” Hayes wrote in his column. “No interrupting media from asking questions, no explaining after the fact that those asking questions knew the ground rules and ignored them, anyway. Or were too stupid to get it.”
“No hiding behind the NFL shield or ESPN comfort blanket. No demanding to be treated differently because you’re Bill (and the Muse) and everyone else isn’t.”
Bill Belichick’s Personal Drama Hits the Spotlight
Right around November, North Carolina announced Bill Belichick as the head coach of their football program. Eight months since, a lot has happened and not necessarily for the right reasons. Apart from that CBS interview, where his notoriety took a hit, Hudson’s involvement in UNC’s communications staff became widely debated.
Speculations started around Hudson, with some alleging that she was denied access to the program, but the program came ahead and denied any such thing. Moreover, accusations were leveled against Hudson for her crossover into potential “Hard Knocks” coverage, which led to HBO pulling the plug.
Despite all the rumors, Belichick has continued to downplay all those concerns, saying that Hudson has “no role” in the UNC football program. He emphasized that his personal life has nothing to do with the program.
North Carolina’s ACC Media Day is scheduled for July 24, the same day programs like Boston College, Clemson, Duke, NC State and Virginia Tech will also face the media. At the moment, the program hasn’t announced who will accompany Belichick on the media day.
