A couple of international UConn four-star commits have been playing at the FIBA U19 World Cup and have performed at a high level. The players are Eric Reibe and Jacob Furphy, who play for Germany and Australia, respectively.
Both are ranked as top 100 prospects for the class of 2025. Reibe plays for The Bullis School in Maryland, having relocated to the US, and he’s ranked as the 36th best recruit nationally by 247Sports.
Meanwhile, Furphy is the 96th best prospect in the class. But, he hasn’t relocated to the US and plays with the NBA Global Academy in Australia.
Ahead of the FIBA U19 World Cup quarterfinals, Furphy was the fourth-best scorer while averaging 21.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. Meanwhile, Reibe was 11th, averaging 16.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.

However, most importantly, Germany’s team, led by Reibe, beat Furphy’s Australia 80-67 during the quarterfinal on Friday. While the Australian captain played valiantly, it wasn’t enough, as the German squad advanced to play Slovenia in the semifinals in Switzerland.
UConn Huskies post a newspaper ad asking for help with their lack of trophy cabinet space
UConn’s sporting present is so successful that the school has an unlikely problem: They ran out of space for new trophies in their cabinet. At least so goes the joke that they posted in a local Storrs newspaper, asking for emergency funds for a new trophy cabinet:
“The UConn Huskies Athletics Department has had another outrageously successful year—so successful, in fact, that we are facing an urgent issue: We have too many trophies. … We’re running out of room faster than our student-athletes run victory laps. Closets are full, offices are jammed. Here’s where you come in: We’re raising funds to build trophy cases, expand display areas, and possibly invest in a forklift.”
UConn is asking for fan help to build “emergency trophy storage” because they are winning so much that they have run out of space.

While UConn’s men’s basketball didn’t have the best of seasons in 2024-25, the women’s squad won the school’s 12th basketball national title. In any case, it’s not like Dan Hurley’s UConn men’s team hasn’t won in a long time, as they secured the national title in 2023-24.
