‘Arch Will Be A Fool’ – Cam Newton Breaks Down Why Arch Manning’s Time Behind Quinn Ewers Was A Tim Tebow Moment

Arch Manning played behind Quinn Ewers for two seasons at Texas. Now heading into the 2025 season, he is getting ready for his first year as the full-time starter. Although he has started a few games in his first two seasons, he does not have experience with a full-time starting workload at the college level.

On Wednesday, former NFL MVP Cam Newton spoke on “4th & 1 with Cam Newton” about his experience learning from Tim Tebow at Florida. Notably, Tebow helped Newton learn what he lacked as a QB. He then compared it to what he hopes Manning will take from his experience playing behind Ewers.

“They went into the University of Texas with the understanding that they’re trying to put Arch Manning in the best situation to be developed over time. It’s not about playing. That’s gonna come. But who’s gonna develop this specific talent to be the best talent by the time he’s eligible to go to the next level? Put yourself in the position to go to the league. That doesn’t mean I’m going somewhere I can play early or start. Just because you’re starting doesn’t mean you’re getting developed,” he said.

“I’ve always felt like I was more talented than Tim Tebow, but I needed Tim Tebow to show me what I lacked. Tim Tebow was an unbelievable leader. Verbally and by action. Arch will be a fool if he has not learned anything from Quinn Ewers. How he prepared, how he led his team, and how he handled and managed the expectations of being a quarterback at a university like Texas,” he added.

Arch Manning Is the Betting Favorite to Win the Heisman Trophy

While Arch Manning has never started a full season at the college level, he is the early betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. According to FanDuel, he is the favorite with +700 odds, beating out LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier (+800) and Clemson QB Cade Klubnik (+900).

Manning started two games for the Longhorns last season while Ewers was hurt. He helped defeat UL Monroe and Mississippi State in September. Although Ewers performed well, throwing for 250+ yards and two TDs in both games, starting two games is very different from starting a full season. So, it would not be shocking if Manning experiences growing pains next season.
