‘Shoutout to His Longevity’ – Peyton Manning’s Arch Manning Shoutout Leads to Troll Fest for Fans Over Name Confusion By Media Outlet

Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning shares a similar name to his grandfather, Archie Manning, who was also a quarterback in the NFL. The 21-year-old’s Super Bowl-winning uncle, Peyton Manning, recently praised his nephew. However, a media outlet mistakenly wrote ‘Archie’ instead of ‘Arch,’ leading to netizens having a field day in confusion and comedy.

During his recent appearance on ‘The Pat McAfee Show,’ Peyton spoke highly of Arch and LSU Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. Having closely watched both of them at the Manning Passing Academy, Peyton said:

“I’m excited to watch Arch play. He threw the ball really well at the camp. He and Garrett Nussmeier at our three throwing expeditions really threw the ball well… all the quarterbacks throw the ball well. It’s impressive. They make throws that I can’t even think about making. Arch made a throw the other day that I’d have to hit the cutoff man to get the ball to the actual receiver.”

It was a clear and glowing endorsement of Arch Manning, but a media outlet mistakenly referenced Archie Manning — Peyton’s 76-year-old father — as the one making those throws.

Fans used the error as an opportunity to spark comedy. The most viral reaction came from a fan who perfectly summed up the confusion, writing on X:

“Damn I didn’t know Archie was still playing. Shout out to his longevity.”

@fr71213136 said: “So whos son is arch out of the family?”

@tucapita added: “isnt archie his dad?”

@RevSum wrote: “Archie doesn’t play football anymore you donut. He’s an old man.”

@Darthseld wrote: “His name is Arch, short for Archibald. His grandfather is Archie.”

@OptumisticAg posted: “For one it’s archabald.”

Arch Manning Names Two NFL QBs He Takes His Game After

Arch Manning has several inspiring figures to look at within his family. His grandfather, Archie Manning, was a legend for the New Orleans Saints, while his uncles, Peyton and Eli Manning, won several Super Bowls.

Yet, when he was asked at the Manning Passing Academy, which QBs does he want to mould his game after, the Longhorns star named Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen and Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow.

“I’m watching a lot of Josh Allen and Joe Burrow right now,” he said. “Those are my guys. They’re dogs. I’ve watched some of their college film. They’re just good players, elite competitors and fun to watch.”

Arch was particularly impressed with the reigning NFL MVP, Allen, and how he handles himself after snapping the ball.

“He’s just the ultimate football player,” Arch added. “If something’s not there, he’s going to make something happen and do whatever he can to make his team win.”

Arch Manning enters the 2025 season with high expectations of carrying his team to the national championship and winning the Heisman Trophy.
