It’s recruiting season in Texas, and the program is leaving no stone unturned to attract a commitment from top-notch high school college football prospects. With a loaded official visit weekend on the horizon, the Longhorns brought out the Lamborghinis into Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium.
The Lamborghini display has become a polarizing symbol. That kind of flexing didn’t sit well with netizens over the internet, calling out the program and questioning this way to attract talent.
“The dumbest recruiting tool,” one fan wrote. “They don’t get to drive one for the weekend, don’t get one if they commit, literally just there for pictures,” wrote one user. “If a kid is committing to a program because he got to see a Lambo on the field then you probably shouldn’t want that player to begin with.”

The backlash didn’t stop there. Detractors pointed to the absence of recent championship success.
“Show cars when you can’t show trophies,” one fan posted.
Another fan asked: “Why aren’t they showing recruits all their CFP championship trophies instead!?!”
Others criticized Texas for repeatedly posting the same recruiting stunt:
“You guys don’t have to show this every single time. We get it. Others are doing this too,” wrote @htownsportsnow.
“No trophies lol 😆,” added @zackgodwin1024.
Some fans mocked the extravagance more directly:
“Anybody else tired of seeing Texas bribe their players with Lamborghinis 🤷♂️,” asked @WarDamnDeuce.
“Bring out the SVJs you broke biches 😂🤣,” taunted @joshua_mizchief.
“Texas uses Lambos and misses. A&M uses live goats and is hitting on all cylinders,” joked @tupapiindeed.
Another user, @Gurrola_Michae1, asked:
“Where’s the hardware Texas? SMH.”
