Former NFL quarterback Greg McElroy has ranked Notre Dame as the top offensive line in college football. The Alabama legend sat down with sports analyst Cole Cubelic heading into the 2025 season.
To the surprise of many, McElroy didn’t put his alma mater in the top spot. The Crimson Tide came in at No. 4, while he named the Notre Dame Fighting Irish the best offensive line.
“To be honest with you Cole, I think there’s a gap between No. 1 and everybody else. I’m that bullish on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. I just think they’re that good,” McElroy said on YouTube channel ‘ESPN College Football.’

McElroy, who put the Texas A&M Aggies in second and the Florida Gators in third positions, explained why he ranked the Fighting Irish first.
“I already liked what I saw from a true freshman last year in Anthonie Knapp at left tackle,” he said. “I love that you’ve seen starters from last year leave in favor of hey, they wanted that spot, they weren’t guaranteed the spot, they leave.”
McElroy further reflected on the talent of Notre Dame’s returning offensive linemen and how they contribute to the squad’s strength.
”I think this group has elevated beyond everybody else in college football, and frankly, I just don’t think the conversation at one is that close with whoever would be sitting in the second spot, third spot, or what have you,” McElroy added.
McElroy is extremely confident in his choice for the top offensive line next season, and it’s not his high-performing alma mater.
Notre Dame adds to offensive line with Grayson McKeogh
Greg McElroy’s pick for the top offensive line has more help on the way. The Fighting Irish have strengthened their side with the commitment of offensive tackle Grayson McKeogh.
Athlon Sports reporter Bryan Driskell discussed the commitment in an article posted on Wednesday, June 18. According to Driskell, McKeogh committed to Notre Dame following a recruiting visit last weekend.

The LaSalle College High School offensive tackle comes to Notre Dame as a four-star recruit ranked No. 181 overall in his class, according to On3. McKeogh stands at 6’7”, 265 pounds, and has been one of the most sought-after offensive tackle prospects this winter.
McKeogh picked Notre Dame over Penn State and Texas and will look to add to an already dominant offensive line.
