With the release of iconic rapper Lil Wayne’s recent album, ‘Tha Carter VI’, there are a few references to iconic college football figures that you may pick up on as the rapper calls upon his long history and friendship with Coach Prime.
With a shoutout in one of the album’s biggest hits, ‘Written History,’ Coach Prime features on the rapper’s first solo album in five years, a project featuring a diverse lineup of collaborators, including 2 Chainz, Big Sean, U2’s Bono, and Andrea Bocelli.

With Deion Sanders’ infamy from his playing days, his bond with Lil’ Wayne is one of the many high-profile figures Coach Prime has brought to the sport, with the famous rapper previously visiting Colorado’s training facilities and performing in the state.

The bond between the two can be dated publicly as far back as the start of 2023, after Coach Prime gave the star a tour of the Colorado locker room, the start of a friendship that has provided multiple iconic moments since.
With Deion’s inclusion in ‘Written History’ representing the next moment in this long list of iconic moments, the rapper called out Coach Prime as one of the all-time greats, as well as giving a surprise shoutout to Alabama legend Nick Saban.
“Born in the ’80s, that’s the greatest of all time, (expletive). You know how we gators are, we grind, (expletive). Great like Nick Saban, Roll Tide, (expletive). I’m like Coach Prime, (expletive).” The rapper shouted the two out clearly in a set of lyrics on the track.

As well as sharing a bond with Coach Prime, Lil’ Wayne has also been seen publicly supporting both Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders, being pictured at the front row of the Heisman ceremony as well as dedicating a section of his concert to the two Colorado stars.
During a Spring Game Afterparty that the rapper was performing at, Coach Prime’s sons also opened up the show for Lil’ Wayne, with Shedeur’s rap debut of ‘Perfect Timing’, being backed by Deion Sanders Jr, who also has a budding rap career currently.
Coach Prime Shares Son Deion Jr.’s Emotional Song About Family
Alongside his inspiration for Lil’ Wayne’s music, Deion Sanders is also an avid supporter of his eldest son, Deion Sanders Jr.
In his most recent song, Deion Sanders Jr. paid a heartfelt tribute to his brothers, Shilo and Shedeur, after their struggles in the 2025 NFL Draft. Offering the song as a warning to the NFL world about the mistake they made.

“Anybody who goes against my brothers, they all fall down. Anybody who goes against my sisters fall down. Anybody who goes against my family, they all fall down,” Sanders sang in the piece.
The video accompanying the song offered clips from all over the weekend of the 2025 NFL Draft, including clips from Shedeur’s streams and clips from Green Bay, Wisconsin, throughout the week.
In the clips, there were multiple iconic moments from the Draft weekend involving the Sanders family, including Shedeur walking next to his father, addressing not getting drafted in the first round, and also Shilo Sanders signing as an undrafted free agent with Tampa Bay.

Deion Sanders’s eldest son, Deion Jr., paved the way for his brothers’ football journeys. A former SMU wide receiver, Sanders ultimately decided to hang up his cleats after three seasons.
