When North Carolina hired Bill Belichick, the Tar Heels envisioned a football renaissance led by a six-time Super Bowl champion. Instead, the offseason headlines have mostly been about Belichick’s girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, and her influence on his public image.
ESPN’s Paul Finebaum has had enough, urging Belichick to “fire” Hudson to refocus on football and restore the program’s momentum.
Paul Finebaum Tells Bill Belichick To Take The Serious Step And Fire His Girlfriend
During ESPN’s “Get Up” show Paul Finebaum didn’t shy away from saying some bold statements about his Bill Belichick. “He has fired coaches, gotten rid of great players, he separated from the greatest quarterback of all time. It’s time for Bill Belichick to fire his girlfriend,” he said.

Hudson, who is described in Belichick’s new book as his “creative muse” and unofficial handler, has drawn a lot of criticism for her role in managing his public persona. Reports of her emailing UNC staff to curb criticism of Belichick have fueled the controversy.
“North Carolina hired him because he’s a great coach, not to be a distraction,” Finebaum added, “He’s a major distraction right now.”
The 24-year-old Hudson’s actions have sparked a media firestorm. She reportedly intervened during a CBS interview to block questions about her relationship with Belichick, creating an awkward moment that went viral.
Further reports claim she demanded control over Belichick’s public appearances, leading to friction with UNC’s staff. Some reports say HBO executives pulled the plug on the Hard Knocks show after Hudson insisted on a producer role and control over the show’s contents.
Even Belichick’s family has shared their thoughts on Hudson, with his daughter-in-law publicly criticizing Hudson’s behavior and others expressing concern that she could affect Bill’s legacy.

Nevertheless, Belichick has a chance to shift the narrative when the season kicks off. His track record of 363 career wins and a .680 winning percentage with the Patriots, suggests he can deliver when needed.
However, he fails to pull the reins on his personal life and football career; nobody knows how much damage his image and overall legacy will endure in the upcoming years.
