Home or away, it didn’t matter; FAU struggled everywhere. Injuries stacked up, the quarterback carousel kept spinning, and the locker room vibes were on an all-time low. But with a new season and leadership, cautious hope flutters around Boca Raton.

2024 was a rollercoaster that forgot how to go up. But 2025 is a chance to rebuild from scratch. After two seasons, the Owls have decided to part ways with head coach Tom Herman. After a 6-16 overall record and a mid-season slump that saw them outscored by 24 points per game in multiple matchups, the Owls decided to make the inevitable change.

The decision left quarterback Kasen Weisman heartbroken and Owls fans wondering what’s next. The special teams coordinator, Chad Lunsford, stepped in as interim head coach. Now let’s look at the carnage.
FAU opened the season by nearly beating Michigan State, but couldn’t carry the momentum forward. A win over FIU in the Shula Bowl brought a rare moment of joy, but by the end, the Owls were on their third-string QB, Tyriq Starks.
Injuries had broken the momentum of the roster. And with key captains sidelined and entire position groups decimated. The defense couldn’t stop bleeding points, the offense couldn’t stay healthy, and Herman’s much-hyped portal revamp turned into a game of musical chairs that never really clicked.
