With North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick in the limelight all week, rumors have swirled around the former New England Patriots coach, with speculation about his relationship rampant and some suggesting he may never coach a single game for the Tar Heels.
The 73-year-old Belichick has received plenty of attention for his relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, who reportedly manages the coach’s personal brand.

Rece Davis on Belichick to UNC: ‘Preposterous’ to Even Think It Won’t Happen
ESPN’s Rece Davis got in on the Belichick action, calling the idea he won’t coach a single game at UNC “propesterous” on the “College GameDay Podcast.”
“I’ve been wrong before,” Davis said. “Not gonna sit here and go at another reporter and say that their sources are no good, they don’t know. I will say this. From my interactions, from my talks, both on camera and off, this notion that it’s even a remote possibility that somehow he wouldn’t coach seems preposterous to me.”
Belichick’s contract buyout drops from $10 million to $1 million this summer, making it easy for the coach to leave UNC, and leading many — including journalist and former ESPN analyst Pablo Torre, who did a deep dive into Belichick’s relationship with Hudson, to speculate he’ll opt out of the contract before coaching a single game.
“All of this seems to be offseason fodder,” Davis said. “Because of the magnitude of who he is, more than anything else.”
Belichick, of course, is one of the greatest head coaches in NFL history. Alongside quarterback Tom Brady, he led the Patriots to six Super Bowl wins and nine Super Bowl appearances, compiling a career record of 302-165 and 31-13 in the playoffs and earning three AP NFL Coach of the Year awards. He also won two Super Bowl rings as a defensive coordinator with the New York Giants.
But though Hudson has become the center of attention in Belichick’s life, he doesn’t think she’ll be a distraction. Instead, he clarified that she doesn’t have a role inside the UNC program and only helps him with personal business.
“Well, nothing with North Carolina. That would be number one. It would be personal opportunities. Could be a speaking thing. It could be an appearance on this or talk about that, or somebody wants whatever it happens to be, an autograph or that type of thing. So, she’d kind of help organize that for me,” Belichick said.
“One of the first things that came out was when North Carolina sent me emails. Saying like these people want to talk to you, these people want to talk to you, these people want to talk to you, these people want to talk to you, I sent back an email, can you please copy Jordon on these requests?”

“So, she could at least filter through them because there was nobody. We didn’t have a Sports Information Director. That was taken, because all emails are shared publicly, that was taken as Jordan’s running the Sports Information Department. That also led to the narrative, which is like totally — she’s not doing it. I mean, there was nobody to help me sort them out, so I was asking her to do it.”
