After a breakout junior season at Cal State, Donovan Oday has entered the transfer portal, and top programs are taking notice. With schools like Florida State, Arizona State, and several others expressing serious interest, the versatile guard is poised to be among the most sought-after names on the market. Here are five possible landing spots for Oday as he weighs his next move.

Florida State and Arizona State Among Top Transfer Portal Offers
Florida State, Arizona State, and nine others are among the schools interested in Cal State Junior Oday after the Guard entered the Transfer Portal. Oday is coming off his best season in NCAA Basketball.
Oday and Cal State finished seventh in the Big West Conference last season, after going 8-12, losing out to Santa Barbara in the first round of the divisional tournament.
5 Possible Landing Spots For Cal State Guard
Last season, with Cal State, Oday had a career-best season, averaging 12.8 points and 5 rebounds per game, smashing his previous career-best of 7.1 points per game.
Scoring 397 points across the season, the Guard also saw drastic improvement from the three-point line, with a 31.0% success rate, making him a potential threat as a Shooting Guard.
Florida State
After failing to qualify for the NCAA Championship for the fourth year running, the Seminoles are rebuilding and have a glaring need for experience at the Guard position after Senior Jamir Watkins declared for the 2025 NBA Draft. The Florida State Guard averaged 18.4 points last season, and the Seminoles will need an explosive scorer to replace him, who led the scoring averages during both of his years as a Florida State player.
The closest thing new Head Coach Luke Louks has to that on his roster at the moment following the departure of Watkins is Freshman Daquan Davis, who averaged 8.8 points last season, meaning that there is a lot of potential for Oday to come in next season and make an instant impact as one of the highest scoring Guards in NCAA Basketball.
Arizona State
Arizona State has already bolstered its Depth at Guard through the Transfer Portal, with Point Guard Moe Odum committing to the school. The Pepperdine junior averaged 13.1 points and 7.5 assists per game this season, all while ranking fourth in the nation in assists. Odum also shot nearly 38% from three.
If Arizona manages also to add to their roster, they could potentially have a hazardous and experienced combination at both Point Guard and Shooting Guard, with the prospect of combining Oday’s explosive scoring stats from last season with Odum’s playmaking ability after his record-high assist tally the previous season.
UTEP Miners
Another team who have been busy with recruitment this month is the UTEP Miners, who recently announced the commitments of a series of talented Guards in Tyreese Watson and LA Hayes, a talented pickup from Cleveland, Ohi,o who led Frank Phillips College to their first-ever appearance in the NJCAA Tournament, averaging 17.2 points per game.
However, despite these two bits of recruitment, neither boasts the same experience and pedigree that Oday has in NCAA Basketball, going into his fourth season of eligibility, one fan showcased how massive of a coup Oday would be for the Miners.
“This is an ambitious desire by UTEP… a long shot to pull this one off,” wrote a UTEP fan on Twitter, after it was announced that UTEP had reached out to Oday.
UC Santa Barbara
Another school that is reported to have an interest in the Cal State Guard is fellow Big West Conference side UC Santa Barbara, who knocked Oday out of the Conference playoffs last season after a loss in the first round, The Cal State Guard could be a potential answer for a problem Santa Barbara currently face, with Senior and Starting Guard Cole Anderson going into his final season of eligibility, Anderson slowed down slightly last season, averaging 8.9 points per game, down from his double digits the previous seasons.

Oday will also have to contend with Sophomore Guard Jason Fontenet II, who averaged 9.9 points per game last season, his second full season in the starting five, playing 34 games.
Indiana Hoosiers.
Currently in Indiana, despite the belief from one fan who believes they currently “all set on Guards,” they currently have a potential need at the positon going into the 2025-26 season, with Trey Galloway, who was the starting guard for the Hoosiers last season is currently at the end of his NCAA Career, the Indiana Starter averaged 8.8 points per game last season.
There is the potential for Sophomore Guard Myles Rice to fill in at the position; however, after averaging 10.1 points per game last season, the Sophomore could potentially fill in the large gap on the roster left by Galloway. The reason for their concrete interest in Oday is apparent.
