Nebraska landed a major addition to its future with the commitment of Trae Taylor, a four-star quarterback ranked No. 3 nationally and a top-50 recruit in the 2027 class. The 6-foot-3 Carmel Catholic (Ill.) standout picked the Huskers over Illinois, LSU, and Texas A&M, following a lighthearted fakeout involving an Illinois hat.
Taylor passed for more than 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns as a sophomore. He praised Nebraska’s coaches and their NFL development track. Taylor is the Huskers’ first 2027 pledge, joining a QB group led by Dylan Raiola and 2026 commit Dayton Raiola, Dylan’s younger brother.

Four-star quarterback Taylor is the first pledge in the 2027 class. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound standout from Carmel Catholic (Ill.) is rated the No. 3 quarterback and No. 40 overall prospect in the country, per the On3 Industry Ranking.
Taylor chose Nebraska over LSU, Michigan, and Texas A&M after strongly considering offers from Oklahoma, Georgia, Miami, Ole Miss, and others. He visited Lincoln multiple times, including attending fall games and returning last weekend for the conclusion of spring practice.
“I feel Coach Rhule and Coach [Glenn] Thomas can really grow me as a man on and off the field,” Taylor told On3. “Their system fits the offense I’m running right now in high school that I’m having a ton of success in. Coach Rhule and Coach Thomas both have been at the highest level and have seen what it takes to get there, and I feel they can really prepare me for the NFL.”
Taylor, who had been silently committed for two weeks, cited the people of Lincoln as a key factor.
“The coaching staff is the most genuine, real coaching staff I feel I’ve been around,” he said.
