On Sunday night, Nick Brooks, an offensive lineman of the Texas Longhorns, was arrested and charged with a DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) in Austin, TX. Brooks was pulled over after 2 a.m. for traveling 47 mph in a 30 mph zone and passed a breathalyzer test at the scene. A marijuana vape was found in the possession of the offensive lineman. Still, recently revealed arrest documents suggest there is more to this story than meets the eye.

Everything We Know About Texas OL Nick Brooks’ DWI Arrest

According to Fox 7 in Austin and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, the 19-year-old was arrested and charged with a DWI on Sunday, April 27. While we already know that the offensive lineman was speeding in a 30 mph zone, what Brooks said to the officer later was nothing short of a shocker.

The offensive lineman mentioned that he came from a 21-and-up club that allows exceptions for UT football players. The new policy documents suggest that the Texas offensive lineman was on his way to a strip club to meet recruits.

The reports suggest that Brooks has admitted to smoking a marijuana vape pen and a blunt before driving. Upon checking, the police discovered a gold vape pen with a marijuana leaf inscribed on it in the pocket.

The offensive lineman informed the police officers that he felt the pen’s effects after mentioning that he had taken three hits from the pen.

Per the affidavit, Brooks failed sobriety tests at the spot and was having body tremors, which were not allowing him to stand on one leg as his whole body was shaking while attempting that.

The breath test did not detect any alcohol. Due to a personal recognizance bond, he was released on the same day he was booked into the county jail.

Texas head football coach Steve Sarkisian has since released a statement regarding the event.

“We’re aware of the situation with Nick Brooks, have talked with him, and are gathering information. We will continue to monitor the legal process and address this situation within the team at the appropriate time,” said coach Sarkisian.
