Gavin Griffiths is a former No. 23 overall prospect in the Class of 2023 out of Kingswood Oxford in Connecticut. The former 4-star recruit committed to Rutgers over offers from schools like UConn, Michigan, Iowa, and Syracuse. He entered the transfer portal after his freshman year with Rutgers but opted to stay within the Big Ten at Nebraska.
Injuries hindered his development at Nebraska, as he was limited to just 16 games, where he averaged a meager 2.1 points per game. He entered the transfer portal after his sophomore season, and it appears he’s found himself a new home through the portal.

Griffiths had earlier taken a visit to Dayton, but he’s now decided to commit to Temple under head coach Adam Fisher.

Griffiths was the highest-ranked recruit in the program’s history when he joined Rutgers, but he’s now on his way to his third team in three years.
The 6’8 “forward who has two years of eligibility left struggled in his only season with Nebraska, averaging 2.1 points on 34.2%, along with 1.6 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.4 blocks, and 0.3 steals in 8.6 minutes per game across 16 appearances.
In his freshman season with Rutgers, Griffiths averaged 5.8 points on 32.4% shooting (37% on twos, 28.2% on threes, 60% on free throws), 2.2 rebounds, 0.6 assists, and 0.4 blocks in 17.8 minutes across 32 appearances, of which three were starts.
Griffiths averaged 24.6 points and 12 rebounds per game in his senior year at Kingswood Oxford and was named the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Player of the Year. He also had a promising start to his life at Rutgers before ultimately tailing off.
In Rutgers’ second game of the year, he dropped 25 points off of 9-of-15 shooting, including 3-of-7 from behind the arc. The addition of Griffiths gives the Owls a three-point threat they lost with the departures of guards Matteo Picarelli and Jameel Brown.
Temple was second in the American Athletic Conference in three-point percentage, shooting 36.2% from beyond the arc. Griffiths is shooting 28% from deep on a high volume in his career, with 28 of his 38 shots last season being three-pointers.

Having secured Griffiths’ commitment, Temple has filled two vacant spots on its roster due to transfer portal departures and will continue adding players for the 2025-26 season.
