Since the day NFL Hall of Fame coach Bill Belichick took over at North Carolina, he has said that the spring portal was going to be big for the Tar Heels, and it’s been just that. North Carolina has signed two four-star transfers, as well as quarterback Gio Lopez and a three-star wide receiver, in just a few days. Belichick is dominating right now.
Say what you will about the entire Nico Iamaleava situation in Tennessee, but for the Bruins to be able to land a quarterback of Iamaleava’s caliber is a season-changing move. The Bruins also grabbed former four-star cornerback Jamier Johnson from the Indiana Hoosiers, giving their secondary a boost as well.
Sometimes it’s quality over quantity, and while the Sooners have only signed two transfers in the spring window thus far, landing California transfer running back Jadyn Ott is the most impactful signing of the spring so far, besides Nico Iamaleava. The Sooners also signed a three-star interior offensive lineman from Stanford.
There’s no question that Purdue was one of the worst teams in the entire Big Ten, and they needed an influx of talent desperately. They’ve signed 37 total transfers so far, the most in the entire country, including seven in the spring, making them the most active team in the spring window. Most of these players should come in and start, or at least compete for starting jobs on Purdue’s roster.
The Longhorns were relatively quiet in the winter portal window, but they’ve become very active here in the spring. Texas has signed four players in just three days, including two receiving threats for quarterback Arch Manning in tight end Jack Endries from California, and wide receiver Emmett Mosley from Stanford. The Longhorns also brought in Lavon Johnson, a defensive lineman from Maryland, as well as a kicker.
