There’s no doubt Nick Saban is one of the best coaches ever to grace college football. His work at Alabama built a dynasty like none other in the history of the sport, with six national titles in a little over 10 years.
In that period, Saban touched countless players whom he prepared to go to the next level. Those players are probably the people who best know how central he was to achieving everything that the Crimson Tide dynasty achieved in the 2010s.
Speaking on Friday on “NFL on ESPN”, former Alabama player and current Baltimore Ravens star Marlon Humphrey talked about the leadership of Nick Saban at Alabama:
“I picked the University of Alabama because I knew specifically I’d be getting coached by this guy. The guy was recruiting me, this guy was going to be coaching me, and what I really took more from just life is ‘This guy is one of the greatest coaches of all time’. I think when I was there, maybe, he had won three championships already. Every single meeting, every single time I saw him in a meeting, he had a pen pad. He had a pen, he was taking notes on whoever was talking. Didn’t matter who it was.” (3:55)
“He always just kept trying to build, kept trying to build. There’s always something to take, and that’s kind of the approach I take now whenever there’s a meeting,” he added.
Humphrey also spoke about what Saban taught him about being a defensive back, especially about using his feet to gain balance on the field. During his time at Tuscaloosa, he won a national championship (2015) and was a First Team All-American (2016).

Nick Saban not included in SEC media days coverage
Nick Saban hasn’t been included in the coverage team for the SEC media days. It’s surprising, considering Nick Saban spent two decades being the leading coach of the famed Southern Conference. If anyone could be considered an expert on the SEC, it is Nick Saban.
The event will run from Monday to Thursday next week. The SEC Network’s coverage team is made up of Paul Finebaum, Jordan Rodgers, Greg McElroy, Roman Harper, Benjamin Watson, Chris Doering, Dusty Dvoracek, Randall Cobb, and Cole Cubelic. Laura Rutledge, Dari Nowkhah, Peter Burns, and Alyssa Lang will serve as studio hosts.
Likely, Nick Saban couldn’t participate in the coverage of the event because of other commitments around the same dates.
