Five-star RB Savion Hiter, the No. 1 ranked back in the 2026 class, found himself at the center of controversy after reports claiming Michigan and Tennessee were leading the race for his commitment. However, Hiter wasted no time in firing back, questioning the validity of the report that created a massive buzz in the media.
Savion Hiter Sounds Off Against Recruiting Report After Ohio State Visit
Five-star running back Hiter made his official visit to Ohio State from May 30 to June 1, 2025. It was the Buckeyes’ first big recruiting weekend of the summer, given his status as the nation’s official target, who has been all-in on recruiting him. In fact, they visited him twice in the five weeks leading up to his trip to Columbus.
For years, Buckeyes fans have dreamed of landing a top out-of-state offensive. So, emotions were running high during Hiter’s visit. He wasn’t alone either—he was joined by fellow five-star prospects, offensive tackle Felix Ojo and linebacker Xavier Griffin. That made the weekend even more high-profile for the five-star prospects. Offensive tackle Felix Ojo and linebacker Xavier Griffin joined him, and things took a surprising turn.
On3 recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong reported that Michigan and Tennessee were leading the race for Hiter, despite his strong visit to Ohio State. “Still think it’s Michigan and Tennessee when it’s all said and done. Those are the programs I’m watching the most right now,” Wiltfong said.

He took to social media to shut down the false buzz. “Where does this stuff come from when I’ve done 0 interviews?” he wrote on X, making it clear he never confirmed anything to anyone.
