Georgia Season Picks & Predictions: Can UGA Retain SEC Title Post Carson Beck?

The Georgia Bulldogs may have lost their starting quarterback to the transfer portal, but the program appears poised to contend once again despite rebuilding the roster. They won the SEC title but fell short of a national title in 2024, losing to No. 7 Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff Quarterfinals.

Kirby Smart will look for his fourth SEC title as he leads one of the nation’s top projected teams, buoyed by a wealth of returning talent and an impressive 2025 recruiting class. Losing Carson Beck is one of the biggest talking points, but Georgia has a knack for overcoming adversity and has long instilled a winning culture.

    2025 Georgia Bulldogs Schedule

The Bulldogs’ schedule in 2025 is slightly easier on paper, yet challenges remain.

The only regular-season losses in 2024 came on the road against Alabama and Ole Miss, giving UGA a chance to get revenge on their home turf.

The Texas game, in particular, is critical for both SEC standings and postseason implications, potentially shaping the playoff landscape.

Tennessee on the road presents another tough test, but after two comfortable wins, the Bulldogs should have ironed out early teething issues.

Neutral-site contests against Florida and Georgia Tech will also be key, as winning these could set Georgia up for a strong finish.

    Predicting Georgia Bulldogs’ 2025 Season

Georgia opens its season hosting the Marshall Thundering Herd at the end of August. Marshall, coming off a strong 10-3 campaign and finishing atop the Sun Belt-East in 2024, will not be an easy opponent, but the game offers a glimpse at how Smart’s new-look team is coming together.

Smart faces a major challenge in replacing a significant number of starters. Seventeen players declared for the NFL Draft, with several others opting for the transfer portal. On offense, the Bulldogs lost four starting offensive linemen, while the defense is without seven of its eight leading sack producers.

The loss of experience puts pressure on returning players and freshmen alike, but if anyone can produce results, it is Smart.

In the regular season, Georgia finished 10-2 in 2024 with losses to Alabama and Ole Miss—both of which will visit Georgia mid-season. Notably, there are just three true away games, with the contests against Florida and Georgia Tech scheduled at neutral sites.

Carson Beck’s transfer to Miami has opened the door for Gunner Stockton, who played in the SEC Championship and the playoff loss to Notre Dame.

Stockton, with his strong arm and mobility, should slot in smoothly behind center this season. Nate Frazier returns at running back after showing flashes behind Trevor Etienne last season, while tight end Oscar Delp and wide receiver Dillon Bell offer weapons for Stockton.

On defense, CJ Allen and Chris Cole remain key in the linebacker group, helping to offset the loss of three potential first-round picks in Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams and Malaki Starks.

Cornerback Daylen Everette and 5-star recruit KJ Bolden will be vital in the secondary, and outside additions include receivers Noah Thomas and Zachariah Branch, along with safeties Jade Harris and Adrian Maddox.

The scouting department also sees a shift with James Ellis stepping in as the new director of scouting, a seamless transition from his previous role as assistant director of player personnel.

Despite the changes, Georgia is expected to remain among the nation’s elite teams. The season may start sluggishly due to the new quarterback, revamped offensive line and various new pieces, but Smart is expected to figure it out. The late-September Alabama matchup should be a key indicator of their progress.

Texas won the SEC last year with Arch Manning at quarterback, and while topping the Longhorns will be a tall order, Georgia should push them close. The November 15 game in Athens between the Bulldogs and Longhorns could decide the SEC champion.

The prediction is for a repeat 10-2 overall record and 6-2 in SEC play, with losses to Tennessee and Texas. In the SEC Championship game, Georgia is expected to face Texas again, with the Longhorns coming out on top.

In the playoffs, the Bulldogs might drop to a No. 5 or No. 6 seed, winning in the first round but falling in the quarterfinals. While capable of winning a national title, this season may just see them miss out.
