Yes, this will be the first time the rivalry is played at Lumen Field, home of the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks, since 2011. Yes, this will be the first time the rivalry has been played between non-conference opponents since 1961. And yes, this will be the first pre-November meeting between Washington State and Washington since 1948.
However, despite the new date and location, as well as Washington’s new conference, it’s still the same color clash of crimson and gray against purple and gold, as well as the same hatred between rosters that come with in-state rivalries.
With both teams undefeated in the young 2024 college football season, we could be in store for a repeat of the classic this rivalry produced last November when Washington won, 24-21, with a game-winning field goal as time expired.

Redshirt sophomore quarterback John Mateer ranks among the top 10 in the nation in both total yards (719) and total touchdowns (8) through two games. That includes breaking a school record for rushing yards by a quarterback with 197 against the Red Raiders last weekend.
Washington’s defense has yet to allow a touchdown this season, albeit in games against Weber State and Eastern Michigan — marking the first time the school has gone two straight games without giving up a TD since 1991. While that and their 2-0 record is the good news, the bad news is they have yet to face an offense with the weapons of Washington State.
Cougars head coach Jake Dickert challenged his fan base to come out to the game and create more bad news for the Huskies. One in the form of a hostile crowd.
“I’ve talked about ‘best’ for three years here, and whatever our best is as a fan base, it needs to happen this weekend,” said Dickert. “If you’re pissed off at what happened, show up. If you’re excited about it, show up. Whatever happens, show up, be there, be loud, and show what our best is as Cougs. That’s all I ask.”
